Frequently Asked Questions

What is the right jacket size for me?

We recommend using your pre-pregnancy/nursing size as a guide. Mamaila jackets tend to come rather bigger than smaller – so in doubt you can normally choose the smaller size. Any extra pounds in the weeks after birth will have space thanks to the babywearing insert when you have your little one with you. If you're still unsure, check out our size chart in the "size" tab for each product. More information about sizes is here.

How warm does the mamalila keep me and my baby?

Keep in mind that your body heat and the baby's will be shared under the same jacket, so you will be slightly warmer with your baby than if you are alone in your jacket. Many parents therefore opt for a lighter jacket than usual.
The advantage of the babywearing jacket is  that you can feel the temperature of your little one close to you, so you can be confident that your baby is warm enough.

How should I dress my child when babywearing?

In the winter, make sure your little one is wearing warm, padded shoes and always a hat – ears and head are really sensitive. Otherwise, dress your baby as you would at home, same as you, when you go out with a mamalila jacket. You may add an extra layer like a thin wool or fleece jumper when it's chilly out.

In general, there is no need to extra dress the baby under the jacket.

Can I also babywear on my back? And how would I then put the jacket on?

Yes, you can! Simply zip the babywearing insert into the back zipper before placing your baby on your back. Check out our "How to Instructions" for more guidance on putting on the jacket.

How warm are the jackets? Which one is the warmest?

We offer a wide selection of babywearing jackets - from thin rain jackets to heavily insulated quilted coats. Our jackets are available in different warmth, depending on their design. Keep in mind that your baby will give you extra warmth under the jacket, and vice versa, you will provide warmth to your baby.

You know best whether you and your baby tend to be cold or if you easily tend to get too warm. To give you an idea of which model is how warm, we have sorted our winter jackets and coats according to their degree of warmth.
